NZ Media Coverage Report: June 2012

Positively Wellington Tourism’s Communications Team is responsible for ensuring Wellington’s tourism industry has a high local and national profile, both as destination and as a key contributer to the capital’s economy. This is the first of a series of monthly reports on the results of the media programme.

June saw 70 pieces of coverage, with a cumulative audience of 2.4 million and advertising space value of just under $137,000. With the launch of the 2012 programme, Visa Wellington On a Plate publicity accounted for the majority of this coverage (63 clips, just over 2 million cumulative audience and $111,328 ASR).
Six journalists were hosted as part of the PWT Visiting Media Programme in June, with two of the featrures running in the month. James Belfield’s cover feature for Sunday Star Times’ Escape section was complemented with a reader competition and launch photos in About Town. Jesse Mulligan previewed the Visa Wellington On a Plate programme via Twitter and on Auckland Food Blog. Coverage from journalists from NZ Herald Viva, The Press, Herald On Sunday and a further Sunday Star Times story are scheduled to run in July/August.
Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) Coverage** Corporate coverage featuring PWT comment
Seven stories featuring PWT comment ran in June, reaching a cumulative audience of over 300,000. The primary story was the announcement of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey world premiere date, with PWT providing comment on the value of film tourism. We also distributed releases about the PWT Advent Calendar being named a finalist in the TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards and the Buckets of MEETINGS fun being promised by the Wellington Convention Bureau.
